Reticulation is a process by which metal is made to draw itself into ridges and valleys, creating a unique texture.
This technique was used to create the ring pictured here. Allowing this process to determine the design is both exciting and a bit unpredictable. My original idea and sketch had been a more straight forward band. As I was firing up the torch and holding the flame to the metal, I let the heat and placement of that flame dictate the result, which led to a more abstract and organic piece. Sometimes it is better to be more open to change in the design process. At least for me it is a way to keep things interesting! That's why I don't do assembly pieces. I love to nurture each "baby" and discover the end result.
